Training for Mid-Career Journalists

The International Key Expert devised the course content and, in collaboration with local experts, tailored it to the specific needs of the Bulgarian media community.

Training is delivered by local and international trainers with recognised journalism and training experience who offer individual approaches and modern training methods. The courses offered by the Project include journalism skills, election reporting, on-line journalism, political and business reporting, reporting diversity, media commercial management, etc. This approach will involve participants in a sustained personal development cycle and, crucially, will enable working journalists to fit learning courses around the demands of a full-time job. The courses are organised in cycles centred in Sofia, Varna, Plovdiv, Russe, Blagoevgrad, Montana, Stara Zagora and other places in Bulgaria.

In practical terms, a series of on-line learning courses will be punctuated by face-to-face training sessions. Learning points will also be consolidated through a range of printed and electronic publications. Trainers will maintain a comprehensive support programme over a sustained period of time, collating regular feedback on the progress of trainees and contributing to measurable career development.

The stage-by-stage approach also enables project coordinators to track the performance of individual subscribers and adapt the learning cycle to suit individual needs. In addition, interactive forums and online discussion groups will allow users to maintain a dialogue with both tutors and other participants.

Tailor-made journalistic skills courses will also be organised for media representatives from ethnic minorities.
