Next round of training scheduled

Studying largeThe 'Focus on the Environment' roadshow has already visited Delhi, Dehradun, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Lucknow.

Now the next round of training is being organised - for West Bengal, Andra Pradesh and Kerala.

Workers at environmental NGOs in each state will be invited to work with an experienced journalist to improve their understanding of the media, and to help them present their concerns more effectively in print and on TV.

They will then attend a one-day seminar attended by specialist journalists and writers, who are all keen to improve their coverage of environmental issues.

Following the seminar, many of the journalists will stay on for their own workshop, this time helping them to understand environmental issues and to report more effectively.

Print journalists will go on to prepare a newspaper campaign on the key issue in the state.

Television journalists will make a short film on a related subject.

Both groups of journalists will also be able to continue their studies online, using the BBC's iLearn system.

Inquiries are invited from suitably qualified and motivated individuals from NGOs and media organisations. A key requirement is that they are able to commit several days to the workshops and associated activities.

Dates are liable to change, but are currently scheduled as follows:

West Bengal
Workshops - late August
Print campaign - mid September
TV filming - early October

Andra Pradesh

TV filming - mid October

Kerala

To express an interest in taking part in these programmes, please contact our project manager in Delhi, Rajiv Saurastri.
