Focus films get a national airing

India’s national broadcaster has broadcast a series of films about pressing environmental issues. The Doordarshan News channel – which reaches 400 million viewers – showed the films in two versions, once in English and once in Hindi.

Each was made by journalists taking part in the Focus on the Environment training programme, working with a producer from the Television Trust for the Environment (TVE).

It is a major success for the programme, which has been organised by the BBC World Service Trust and The Environment and Resources Institute (TERI) in collaboration with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). The project is funded by the European Union’s EU-India Economic Cross-Cultural Programme.

“This is wonderful news for creating awareness about the project and the important issues involved,” said Kerstin Lindberg of the EU delegation in India.

The films were broadcast in the ‘Terraview’ slot at 9.55 am on Sundays in English and repeated in Hindi at 4.55 pm the same day.
