Competition winners celebrate success

A television documentary team from Dehradun and a newspaper journalist from Pune have been presented with prizes of digital cameras by the EU's Director of International Affairs in the Environment Directorate, Mrs Soledad Blanco. The awards recognised the outstanding quality of the features they produced as part of the Focus on the Environment project, which aimed to improve coverage of environmental issues in the Indian media.

Over 100 TV and print journalists in nine Indian states showed remarkable dedication by completing a cycle of face-to-face and online training and practical work on the documentaries and print articles and campaigns.

The 18 documentaries they produced and a substantial number of print articles were judged by the project partners: the BBC World Service Trust, the Television Trust for the Environment, the Energy and Resources Institute, Stockholm Environment Institute and the ECCP. The jury was faced with a difficult task because of the very high quality of the entries.

The award ceremony marked the opening of the EU-sponsored Environmental Projects Fair organised in parallel with the International Conference on Climate Change.
