The following web sites contain useful information about environmental issues. They are not sorted in any particular order and, of course, we are not responsible for their content. You should always make your own checks to verify any information or claims made on a web site. Major news organisations, including the BBC, have published information from web sites that has later proved to be incorrect.

BBC Science and Nature *FOCUS PARTNER*
The BBC's web pages dedicated to science, nature and the environment.

Center for Communications, Health and the Environment (CECHE)
'An American non-profit organization devoted to assisting under-served communities worldwide to improve health and alleviate the adverse health affects of environmental pollution.'

EarthTrends
'A comprehensive online database that focuses on the environmental, social, and economic trends that shape our world.'

Eldis Gateway to Development Information
Includes a guide to the most pressing environment and development issues, and a resource database of full-text, online documents selected from more than 4,500 different publishers. All documents are available free of charge.

Envirolink
EnviroLink maintains a database of thousands of environmental resources and provides internet services to non-profit organizations.

Environment Agency
The UK government regulator.

Environmental Protection Agency
The US government regulator.

Epaedia *RECOMMENDED RESOURCE*
The online environment encyclopaedia. Includes explanatory images, animations, maps and videos.

European Environment Agency
The European Union's own environmental think-tank: its core task is to provide decision-makers with the information needed for making sound and effective policies to protect the environment and support sustainable development.

IISD Linkages
'An electronic clearing-house for information on past and upcoming international meetings related to environment and development policy'.

India Together
India Together provides in-depth information & news on the issues that matter covering 15 major topics - including the environment - and over 15 states.

Infochange Environment *RECOMMENDED RESOURCE*
'An online resource base that provides news, views, perspectives and debates on crucial issues of sustainable development and social justice in India and South Asia. It seeks to enable readers to marshal facts, opinions and perspectives on rights and development issues, so that they can participate in drawing up an agenda for a more equitable and sustainable world.'

International Federation of Environmental Journalists (IFEJ)
Aims to improve public understanding of environment and sustainable development issues worldwide by supporting environmental journalists internationally through networking, training and promoting free access to information.

International Rivers Network
'IRN protects rivers and defends the rights of communities that depend on them. IRN opposes destructive dams and the development model they advance, and encourages better ways of meeting people’s needs for water, energy and protection from damaging floods.'

IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre
News and information, advice, research and training, on low-cost water supply and sanitation in developing countries.

IRIN News site (Asia)
News on development issues from Asia.

Kalpavriksh Environment Action Group
'A small, 25-year old NGO that works on environmental awareness, campaigns, litigation, research, and other areas. It has taken a position on a number of environment-development issues, more often than not confronting the state through measures ranging from protest letters to street demonstrations.'

Media Channel Environment

Television Trust for the Environment (TVE) *FOCUS PARTNER*
'An independent, non-profit organisation, which promotes global awareness of the environment, development, human rights and health issues through the platforms of broadcast television and other audio-visual media.'

The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) *FOCUS PARTNER*
Environmental research and training body 'formally established in 1974 with the purpose of tackling and dealing with the immense and acute problems that mankind is facing on account of the gradual depletion of the earth’s finite energy resources.'

United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)
Provides environmental information, communications and capacity building services for information management and assessment. 'Our focus is to make credible, science-based knowledge understandable to the public and to decision-making for sustainable development.'

Worldwatch Institute
'A leading source of information on the interactions among key environmental, social, and economic trends. Our work revolves around the transition to an environmentally sustainable and socially just society—and how to achieve it.'

World's leading wildlife and habitat conservation organisation.
