LEARN ONLINE

What is iLearn?

iLearn is an online learning system devised by the BBC World Service Trust for media professionals in developing countries. The modular courses are optimised for users with poor Internet connectivity and can be published in any language.

iLearn courses promote the principles of balanced, objective journalism through providing advice, models and guidelines for best practice. They also focus on developing professional skills by inviting users to perform practical tasks and submit them to online mentors for evaluation. This process is managed by iLearn partners in-country and supervised by the BBC World Service Trust.

Within the framework of BBC overseas development projects, iLearn forms a key component of blended learning programmes. It enables beneficiaries to sign up to an account-based system which tracks and manages their personal development over the project lifecycle. This systematises the way in which online and face-to-face courses are delivered, allowing trainers to tailor training packages to meet individual needs. Data culled from this process gives a valuable insight into the long-term impact of media development initiatives.
