The creation of a monthly news and current affairs magazine for Somali journalists has long been a dream of the BBC WST Somali Journalism Training Project.

We've been fortunate enough to work with some incredibly talented print journalists and trainers have been impressed at the dedication and enthusiasm shown by reporters and editors to produce considered journalism in their newspapers.

In early 2005, two reporters in Hargeisa presented a proposal to the Project Team outlining how they wanted to produce an independent current affairs publication - Codka Suxifiga - The Voice of the Journalist.

Regional editors and correspondents were then appointed in Galkaayo, Bosasso, Hargeisa and Mogadishu.  The idea was to bring together features and articles from cities across Somaliland, Puntland and Somalia using the expertise of participants of BBC WST training courses.
